VISITOR CENTRE

The Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre is ideal as a platform for a variety of projects and excursions. Children and teachers can gain fulfilment from learning about this historical site. There’s even a miniature version of the battlefield in a park beside the centre, which children love to visit. There are trails to follow, and children under 12 can enjoy the adjacent playground.

We recommend a short visit by a teacher/group leader beforehand. This ensures you’ll be fully prepared for the actual visit and allows our guide to help you to formulate a plan for bringing schoolchildren. If it’s not possible to visit in advance, we strongly recommend reading through this website for more information about the battle and the Visitor Centre, and to download any relevant online resources.

Children must be supervised at all times at the Centre by a parent/guardian/teacher/school representative

School Tours

We are delighted to welcome schoolchildren and teachers to the Battle of Aughrim Centre. All school/group visits to the Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre must be booked in advance — please phone the centre and discuss your needs with the centre’s Assistant/Tour Guide when making a booking.

Get the maximum benefit

In order to get the maximum benefit from your visit, it’s advisable to have an objective in mind for your visit: for example, build the visit into a project at school, give the students a ‘teaser’ of the exciting things they will learn and encourage a class discussion about the Battle of Aughrim in advance of the visit.
